Garage Sale Treasures

2 Corinthians 4:7 – But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. (NKJV)

Every Saturday, from the rise of the early morning sun, and even in the rain, the streets become alive with a different kind of commuter. This commuter is not heading to work in the city, but rather heading from street to street and yard to yard — in search of the perfect garage sale treasure. As we drive around looking for the ideal find, we see people, young and old, with lists. We see things from the past and hear people saying, "I remember that" or "We had one of those."

On a recent Saturday excursion, I noticed pictures and plaques with Christian verses. I began to wonder how and why these treasures could or would be discarded. I was trying not to judge, but rather, instead, felt led to pray. It also saddened my heart to see these items being passed over by the shoppers.

So many are lost in the world. People turn away from the Lord and quite possibly go their own ways. Yet so close to us, and within our reach, is our Redeemer and Saviour.

Luke 19:10 – For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. (KJV)

Prayer: Lord, we are sorry for the times when we remove You from Your rightful place in our lives. Help us to be light in this world and to bring the truth of Jesus into the lives of the people we meet. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
