The Greatest Re-Packager Of All

Listen to this devotional:

Isaiah 9:6 – For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (NKJV)

Our boys are beyond the age of toys — well, toys in the price range we can afford. They are into the electronic toys of today. So I am not sure why on this particular day I found myself thumbing through the Christmas flyers, and the toy flyer to be exact. I was amazed at how many of the toys were unfamiliar to me, but then I came to a section that was quite familiar. The old toys and games that I knew as child were displayed on these pages. Although they were the same games and toys that I remembered, they all looked different in their style and packaging.

That is how it is for us. Before we meet Jesus, we are wrapped up in ourselves, in our own packaging. Then Jesus seeks us out and gives us a new style and packaging of His choice. Then He puts us on display to show His light for all the world to see. He intends us to be shining examples of the difference His salvation makes in a human life.

This holiday season as we are wrapping our packages, let us prayerfully remember those who are still packaged as hurting and lost people, and the greatest re-packager of all Who was born to our world: our Lord and Saviour Jesus.

Luke 2:7 – And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths. (NKJV)

Prayer: Dear Lord, as we enter this holiday season, help us to reflect on the birth of Your Son. Help us to pass down to our children and loved ones the true reason for this holiday season. May our lives display shining examples of Your love and passion for a lost world. We praise and thank You for the greatest gift of all: Your Son. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
