God's Promise

Listen to this devotional:

Hebrews 13:5b – God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you". (NIV)

Driving is a passion of mine, so often, my husband and I find ourselves driving along little winding roads, just for the fun of it. One particularly sunny day, the road beckoned us, so off we went for a new adventure.

Suddenly, though, the sky opened up, and a torrential rain poured down. The rain was so heavy that it was coming in sheets. We couldn't see where we were going and had to pull over to what we hoped was the side of the road to wait out the storm.

After about fifteen long minutes, the curtains of rain parted, and a beautiful rainbow stretched from one end of the horizon to the other. As the rain slowly subsided, the colours of the rainbow deepened. It was like we were watching the Artist Himself carefully defining the colours so no one would miss this breathtaking masterpiece.

How like God to paint a visual reminder of that promise made so long ago to Noah after the flood!

Genesis 9:13,15b – I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. (NIV)

All God's promises made long ago, like the rainbow, still stretch from generation to generation. What an awesome God!

Prayer: Dear Father, thank You for Your never-failing promise that You are always with us! The storms will stop, and we can go on. You promised! Amen.
