Psalm 96:12 –
- Let Wilderness turn cartwheels,
Animals, come dance,
Put every tree of the forest in the choir. (MSG)
When the children were young, I used to love going camping. They enjoyed it so much. The freedom to run and play was exhilarating — for them, as well as for us, the parents who were watching close by. Often, we would see squirrels or chipmunks dashing around also — up this tree, down that one, and over to another one. It was fun to watch them scurrying around. Sometimes, we would leave food out for them and sit quietly while watching them come to eat what we offered them. I wonder how many more little animals were watching from the protection of trees or underbrush.
It was so peaceful and quiet out in the bush; sometimes we were miles from any civilization at all. There were no phones ringing, no televisions on, no radios playing: complete silence — except for the rustling of the leaves in the light breeze in the evening, or the sound of little animals dashing though the forest, or the brook close by. Oh, how I enjoyed that part of camping. It was like God was speaking softly to me. I could hear Him saying, "I have made this creation, this forest, these animals, the quietness, the rippling brook nearby — all for you to enjoy."
Psalm 96:11 –
- Let's hear it from Sky,
With Earth joining in,
And a huge round of applause from Sea. (MSG)
God has given us so much beauty in our lives, if only we will look and really see it. Let's slow down long enough to enjoy the beauty that is close to us — not only while we are on vacation. The sky is beautiful and changing every minute of the day. Let's praise God for the beauty of His creation.
Ecclesiastes 3:11a – He has made everything beautiful in its time. (ESV)
Prayer: Thank You, God, for the beauty that You have placed all around us. Sometimes, life seems so hard and so dark that we can't see the wonderful things all around us. Help us to focus on You and all that You have made for us to enjoy. Amen.
