Accept One Another

Listen to this devotional:

Romans 15:7 – Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. (NIV)

My beloved adopted mother had passed away three years earlier. My brother-in-law, the family genealogist, suggested that I search for my biological siblings. I hesitated, out of fear, wondering what they would be like and what kind of life they led. After a while, I agreed. My brother-in-law gathered information about my family, and found my father's grave.

It was a Saturday evening, and I remember praying, "Dear God, in Jesus' name, if this is Your will for me to find my birth family, I am now ready, and will accept them as they are." Four days later, on the third anniversary of my adopted mother's death, I was talking to my birth mother and siblings by telephone.

Now, years since, I am still in contact with them.

When we call on God in prayer and agree with God on His terms, then we are in His perfect will. God accepts us just the way we are, and He wants us to love and accept others the way He does. We should try to look at people through Jesus' eyes.

Colossians 3:12 – Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to accept others and see them as You do. Help us never to suspect or judge people from appearances, but look for what is beautiful in them. Thank You, God, for answering prayers in Jesus' name. Amen.
