Protection

Listen to this devotional:

Proverbs 18:10 – God's name is a place of protection — good people can run there and be safe. (MSG)

In one office that I was once in, there was an interesting sight by the doorway. It really wasn't very unusual, but it was interesting.

In the corner of the waiting room was a tall plant. It looked very healthy and seemed to be growing well. When my eyes followed the plant down to the pot, I discovered, at the bottom of the big, healthy plant, a little, bedraggled-looking plant. It looked like it needed sunlight, fertilizer, water — something to help it. It was there, resting, not knowing what else to do, under the protecting leaves of the larger plant.

I haven't been back in that office for a long time, so I don't know what has happened to the little plant. My hope would be that it became healthy from receiving the care and the supplements it needed.

So many times in life, we are battered and bruised and bedraggled from circumstances in our lives. Some of these are self-induced; some are not. Either way, we need some protection from the "weather" out there. Like the little plant in the pot, we can rest — not knowing what else to do — under the protecting arms of Jesus. He will care for us. He will nourish us. He will heal us.

Oh, how we need Him today in every aspect of our lives. Let's rest. Let's feed on the Word of God. Let's grow.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, life is tough sometimes. You are always waiting for us to turn to You. You are more than willing to protect us. We need to come and rest in Your arms. Help us, we pray. Amen.
