And The Word Is

Malachi 3:16 – Then those who feared the Lord talked often one to another; and the Lord listened and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him of those who reverenced and worshipfully feared the Lord and who thought on His name. (AMP)

"I heard that," a strident voice announced. Oh, yes, we had been caught out. Our grade school teacher had overheard some not-so-complimentary statements about both her personality and her teaching methods. From then on, no matter what we ever said to her face, that conversation marked the real story. I don't know whether she ever wrote those comments down, but I expect she filed them away in her brain. No doubt, they surfaced when she marked our final exams.

That wasn't the first time my big mouth got me in trouble, and likely, it won't be the last. Quite frankly, I doubt that I am the only one with this problem.

God has better ears than that teacher. He actually listens in on conversations among His faithful, and He keeps track of those with a reverent and worshipful mouth.

What words do we utter about our friends, our neighbours, our God? Would we want anyone but our little gossipy friends to hear them? Beware. Someone is listening. Someone is filing. Someone is writing.

Prayer: Lord, please accept our apologies for things we have said that are not reverent, or even worshipful. Forgive us. Help us to honour every possible listener. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
