God's Providence

Psalm 91:11-12 – For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

Yesterday I mentioned our recent 800 km trip into the south-eastern corner of our province. On our return trip, we experienced a miracle. We left my brother's house at 8:25 a.m., intent on finishing our ten hour trip in time for my son to attend an important concert at 8:00 that evening. As we left, the car developed a peculiar whine in the motor. At first we hoped it would go away when the car warmed up, because we were concerned about being "ripped off" by a mechanic in an unfamiliar town, and missing the concert because repairs took too long. But the noise didn't go away, and we began to think about being stranded in some deserted mountain pass. I prayed, "Lord, lead us to the right place to get it fixed." I turned in at a gas bar that didn't have a repair bay, and asked where was a good place to have a car looked at. The lady said she took her car to a garage behind a store across the street. There, I received immediate service, and they determined that it was the alternator. It even appeared that it was still covered under a two year warranty, and in town there was a branch of the store that had supplied the original part. Although I didn't have the necessary paperwork to process the warranty, the store sold me the exact replacement at the wholesale price, with the prospect of a refund when I returned home. When I got back to the garage with the replacement part in hand, the mechanic immediately swapped it. Elapsed time: 1 hour. We had a worry-free trip home, and arrived at the concert half an hour ahead of time. As miraculous as the immediate service was, we felt it was even more miraculous that the Lord had arranged for the noise to appear at just the right time to warn us, for it disappeared as soon as the trouble was analyzed. Praise the Lord!

I hear you say, "Miracles like that never happen to me." Maybe it's just that you're not expecting the Lord to actually do something for you. Remember George Beverly Shea's song?

It is no secret what God can do.
What He's done for others He'll do for you.
      Stewart Hamblen

Prayer: Lord, I believe You can do anything. Please help me to expect, look for, and recognize Your miraculous intervention in my daily life. And help me to give You all the glory. Amen.
