Rodeo Speak

Listen to this devotional:

The honker arm-jerked the bronc rein and crow hopped across the arena. The mash up grabbed the apple to avoid the back door and the crowd saw daylight. Meanwhile the pick-up man and the clown had a run-in with the stargazer. The animal's final sunfish lost the purse.

May I translate?

The hard-to-ride animal bucked and pulled the halter rope, which the rider was hanging onto, and then he jumped stiff-legged across the arena. The cowboy clamped his legs around the animal rather than use spurs, and grabbed his saddle to avoid being thrown over the back end of the animal, and the crowd saw space between rider and horse. Meanwhile, the cowboy who helps contestants get free and the clown who diverts the animals had a run-in with the horse, because he bucked with his head up and caused the reins to slacken. The horse stuck all four feet to the side, and the rodeo prize money was lost.

It's not so hard when you know the language is it?

We tend to forget that folks outside our Christian circle aren't familiar with phrases like "washed in the blood", "saved for eternity", and "born in the Spirit". A little translation would be helpful. They can learn the big words after they ask Jesus into their life.

John 3:16 – This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. (MSG)

Prayer: Father, help us to "become all things to all people" (1 Corinthians 9:22 TNIV) by speaking your truth in a language they can understand. In Jesus' name. Amen.
