The Unveiling

Listen to this devotional:

James 5:8 – You, too, must be patient. And take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near. (NLT)

A large parcel of land was surrounded by homes and busy streets. Then came the earthmovers. Small trees were removed; the land was stripped; footings were dug. Day by day and week by week, we watched the land being transformed. There was no sign to tell of the building to come; people made guesses and speculated on the type of business to be established. A building began to rise from the soil. Then the whole building was covered in plastic, while the inside was completed during the cold winter months. When the plastic came down, a sign revealed a new drugstore to be opened.

As I reflect on this process, I am also aware of an unveiling that is recorded in the Bible. People awaited the birth of Jesus. Both when He was born and when He began His ministry, people speculated as to whether He was the One. He walked the land from area to area, touching and healing the lives of many. The Bible also tells of His coming again — in a way, another unveiling, when who He is will be revealed to all.

In 2 Corinthians 3, the Apostle Paul likens the veil that Moses used to shield the Israelites from his shining face, to the veil that covers the hearts of those who don't trust in Christ.

2 Corinthians 3:15-16 – Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. (NIV)

Are we ready? Because people will continue to question, let us take steps now to make sure that we are rooted and grounded in our walk, so that we do not get caught off guard when we have an opportunity to reveal Christ in all His glory to others.

2 Corinthians 3:18 – And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You that the veil has been removed from us who believe in You. Help us to aid You in removing the veil from others. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
