The Trickling Spring

Listen to this devotional:

John 7:38-39a – He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water. But He was speaking here of the Spirit. (AMP)

The spring in my dad's back field continually burbled forth fresh, clean water. As children, we thought of it as the source of some great body of water. Was it running to the mighty Fraser or the tumbling Colorado? (We lived in southern Ontario!)

Perhaps we did get the destination wrong, but at least we recognized that stream as the miracle that it was. Where did it come from? Why did it start there? If we cut off the supply, what would happen to the farms below us?

Jesus said that if we believe in Him, springs and rivers of living water would flow from our innermost beings. The mighty Fraser or the tumbling Colorado flowing through us? Yes! No drip! No drizzle! No dried-up-dirt of a stream! Instead, the Holy Spirit can gush out of us!

Do you recognize yourself? Most of us trickle spiritually like that little flow in my dad's back field. Still, that little stream is going somewhere. Let's ask God to fill us again with the Holy Spirit. When He does, hang on! Enjoy the ride through the powerful, turbulent Fraser and the Colorado.

Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your Holy Spirit. We appreciate Your offer of as much as we need and more. Amen.
