Spring Has Sprung (1)

Jeremiah 33:3 – Call to me, and I will answer you; I will tell you wonderful and marvelous things that you know nothing about. (GNB)

How we long for spring to arrive in northern Alberta, Canada. Winter has been here for months and we desperately need some warm weather, some green grass, some blooming flowers. One sure sign that spring has arrived is the return of the robins. At times, they return before all of the snow has melted. Those years, we know that spring is just around the corner.

Not long ago, I returned home from running some errands on a bright sunny morning. On top of the tallest tree in the area was the neighbourhood robin, singing at the top of his lungs. I was so glad to hear him. I said, "Good morning, little robin. I'm glad to see you back this year." He chirped and sang away. I replied with more praise and excitement that he was here and was singing loudly for all to hear. I was speaking directly to him. Each time, he would answer me with a short song. This two-way communication went on for quite a while. I wondered what this beautiful little bird was telling me. Was he saying what a long flight he'd had coming back? Was he telling me the beauties of his winter home far away? Was he telling me he was excited to be back here for the summer? Was he telling me some of his deep, dark secrets? Was he telling me he was glad to see me?

I thought about our relationship with God. He delights in communicating with us. Are we so readily communicating with Him? God is so willing to speak to us. He has promised to tell us wonderful and marvellous things that we know nothing about. Let's listen and carry on a conversation with God, our Father.

Prayer: Father God, thank You that You are so willing to listen to us. At the same time, You are so willing to answer us. You are a great God. Help us to focus on You, moment by moment, and have hearts that are open to hear from You. Amen.
