Ecclesiastes 4:12b – A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. (NIV)
Inspired by today's Scripture, one local church in my area has developed a ministry entitled A Cord Of Three Strands, which involves small meeting groups consisting of a leader, the group, and most important of all, the Lord. The purpose of this ministry is to provide members with the opportunity of building closer relationships to encourage one another in Christian love.
The three-stranded cord is also a wonderful illustration of the Christian marriage. You may have heard this message preached at weddings symbolizing the newly married couple's relationship with each other and the Lord; yet it can be applied to many relationships within the body of Christ. Perhaps the apostle Paul said it best:
Romans 15:5-6 – May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. (NIV)
Contemplating the idea of group ministry, I thought about my own experience over the past year as one of the PCCWeb Daily devotional writers. Had it not been for the help and support of the editor, Robin Ross, the encouragement of some of my dear fellow writers, and the inspiration of God's Spirit, I would have lost the desire to continue writing. So, to me personally, the Daily is like a Cord Of Three Strands consisting of the Holy Spirit; the Daily editors, writers, and readers; and me. Together, we are all strengthened to do our part for the glory of God in the body of Christ. As a result, we are able to reach out to many people in various regions of the world, who in turn have also been a blessing to us. For Christians, this is the key to any successful relationship or ministry. This is a cord not easily broken and forever being woven together through the power of Christ's eternal Spirit. To God be all the glory!
Prayer: Father, like a cord of three strands, may Your church continue to be strengthened in the unity and power of Your Spirit to build valuable relationships that will bring blessing and honour to Your name through Jesus Christ our Lord. In His holy name, we pray. Amen.
Editor's note: Today is the fourteenth anniversary of the inception of the PCCWeb Daily.
