Don't Use The Reins

2 Corinthians 5:7 – For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Many years ago, an evangelist was invited to hold meetings in a remote mission station in the hills of Kentucky. To get there, he first had to ride a logging train, and it was dark when the missionary met him The next leg of the journey was a 3-mile jaunt by mule. The missionary's instructions were, "Don't use the reins, and don't try to guide the mule. He knows this road much better than you do." In the pitch black night, he couldn't see one step ahead, so he just trusted the mule. The next day he was taken back over the same road. The light of day showed a narrow, dangerous, rocky trail along the rim of the mountain. One slip would have landed him in a chasm a hundred feet below. He would have refused to go, if he had seen the road first. If we could see the dangers ahead in our life, we would despair; so the Lord leaves us in the dark, asking us simply to trust Him and turn the reins over to Him, for He knows the way.

Prayer: Lord, you are the Shepherd, and I am Your sheep. Lead me and guide me through the valley, into the way of life everlasting. Amen.
