Glimpses Of Truth

1 Corinthians 13:12a – For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. (NASB)

The foundation of the Christian message is the historical resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Lord conquered death as He had promised. He was seen by a number of people on several occasions following His resurrection. One such occasion, was on the road to Emmaus:

Luke 24:13-16,27-31 – And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem. And they were conversing with each other about all these things which had taken place. While they were conversing and discussing, Jesus Himself approached, and began traveling with them. But their eyes were prevented from recognizing Him. … And beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures. And they approached the village where they were going, and He acted as though He would go farther. But they urged Him, saying, "Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day is now nearly over." And He went in to stay with them. And it came about that when He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. (NASB)

Could it be possible that they recognized the Lord by the nail prints in His hands?

This story leads me to look at the special times when I have had a glimpse of Him. At the age of thirteen, after hearing an inspiring message on Christian outreach and missions, I was moved by the Holy Spirit to dedicate my life to the Lord.

Then, as a college student, in my innocence, I became aware of the emerging practice of some of my classmates to choose alternative lifestyles. With the help of a dear, Spirit-filled woman, I experienced the power of the Holy Spirit, who gave me yet another glimpse of truth and new insights into this problem affecting the lives of those around me.

As an adult, my focus has been on studying God's Word "precept upon precept, line upon line." (Isaiah 28:10 NKJV) I am in the process of attempting to put all of the Christian life together. Will I really be able to do that?

According to today's verse, our understanding of who He is and who we are will be fully realized when we see Him face to face. "Beloved, now we are the children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is." (1 John 3:2 NASB)

Prayer: Dear Lord, we look forward to the day when we shall see You face to face. We thank You for your holy Word which gives us the hope that we shall be like You and fully understand who You are. In Jesus' holy name, we pray. Amen.
