Look Past The Clouds

Psalm 121:1-2 – I lift my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

For the past couple of summers, our family has spent part of our summer holidays hiking up Hurricane Ridge which for those of you who are unfamiliar with the Port Angeles area, it is hike up through the Olympic Mountains. It is a challenging hike but with breathtaking views of the mountains. I particularly remember our experience two years ago when we camped at the base of the mountain the night before. When we awoke for our day of hiking, we were greeted with clouds and a light mist. We were very discouraged because we figured that our visibility would be nil going up the mountain. As we started our journey up the mountain and we literally drove through the clouds, we were greeted with a beautiful, sunny, clear day for our hike.

I've never forgotten that experience of driving through the clouds to the sun. It was a spiritual experience for me. I was reminded of the Psalm 121 that day and there have been days since then that I have woken up to days that seem very cloudy and uncertain but it is those days that I remind myself that God's light is beyond those clouds.

Prayer: Lord, I thank you for the reminder that you are always with us and that even when we can't see where to go, you will lead us and protect us in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
