1 Timothy 1:15 – Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners — of whom I am the worst. (NIV)
"Take it and use it," they said. "Its motor is just about shot." They had purchased a ride-on lawnmower and were offering me their old electric mower. I had just become a homeowner and was happy to accept it. "We'd like to have the wheels back when the motor goes," they added.
For nine summers, with regular oiling — and two replacement wheels — that lawn mower kept cutting my grass!
In his book, Mayo: The Story Of My Family And My Career, Dr. Charles W. Mayo tells of doctors at the famous Mayo Clinic sending a young man home after surgery with "terminal cancer". Twenty years later, they were surprised to find the man still alive.
We don't know it all.
Some people live in great fear of God because they think they "know" that they have sinned to the extent that they can never be forgiven. But there is more to know: "Come now, let us reason together," says the Lord. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool" (Isaiah 1:18 NIV).
Only God knows it all — and the Son of God, Jesus, promised: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him" (John 3:16-17 NIV).
How, then, should we live, believing that we are gifted with eternal life? Let us exult in our God and enjoy Him forever.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for extending to us Your full and free pardon. Please keep showing us more and more of Your way, and please guide and empower us to live in it and to pass it on. Amen.
