Fast Forward

When my nephew underwent major heart surgery at the age of one I found myself wishing that God had made life like a VCR so I could fastforward through the day and see if he survived. If all was well I'd go back and live through the day, if not, I'd fast forward to a better day.

But God didn't make our lives like a VCR. We can't fast forward through the calendar and pick and chose the days to live through, skipping the hard and painful times. There is no way of knowing when our lives will be filled with confusion or sorrow. But God has promised to provide for all our needs. He knows when sorrow and hurt will pile upon our hearts and lives. He knows the strength, the encouragement, the hope that we will need to make it through the tough times and He alone has promised to provide it, to help us and to carry us forever.

My nephew turned eight last August. He has had four major surgeries and his life prognosis is thirteen years of age. Each day he lives is in itself a miracle. Each day is a precious gift to live through, not to be fast forwarded.

"My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19)

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. Be their Shepherd also and carry them forever." (Psalm 28:7,9)

Prayer: Father we thank you that you are our Jehovah Jirah, our provider. You know the needs of our hearts and minds. You know the pain and the sorrow we experience and you promise to help us and to provide us with Your strength. Thank you Lord that we can come to you, knowing that You understand, knowing that You care, knowing that you love us, knowing You are our Shepherd and will carry us forever. Amen.
