Acceptable Words

Ecclesiastes 12:10 – The Preacher sought to find out acceptable words; and that which was written was upright, even words of truth. (KJV)
Romans 14:12 – So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. (KJV)

In the last few months, I've attended services for several friends and acquaintances who were good people, but not regular church goers.

When the service is one which includes a minister, they are called upon to perform a duty usually within three to four days after a death. They gather information from the family and friends and must summarize the life of a soul whom they have never met, and yet must present the information to validate that life in a way which will soothe the mourners.

The minister seeks to find acceptable words; words which are upright, words of truth.

What would happen if God only had a short time to learn about us?

What if our family and friends had to scramble to put our lives on paper for Him? Would we have fulfilled what He had hoped for us?

No matter how short or long our life is, He knows us from our very beginning. He knows our every thought, our every deed, our every move, for He created us. He doesn't ask that we put on paper what we have done, He asks only that we know Him and live our life accordingly. We are each accountable to Him, and it's not what the minister or anyone else says about us that influences His opinion of us. Our very existence is our accounting of our lives to Him.

Prayer: Be with us Lord, as we seek to know You, as we strive to live our lives as You would have us live them. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
