On this Sunday I am blessed with the opportunity to share with brothers and sisters half a world away from my home. Maybe I can't bring the snow and the Christmas tree that will this morning standing in the sanctuary back home in St. Andrew's, Pictou, Nova Scotia, but I can bring the message that unites Christians around the world. Today in my tradition back home it is the Second Sunday in Advent, a day devoted to peace and the search for peace on the journey to wholeness and the birth of the Christ who came to bring peace and reconciliation. Because of Jesus, the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us, has been broken down. The wall may be your language, it may be your colour, it may be your nationality, or your belief, or your gender, or your wealth, or your possessions or whatever. But, by the grace of God we look to one new humanity and then the day may dawn when Isaiah's peaceable kingdom will be seen on earth as it already is in heaven. Until that day, we continue to listen for the voice of the messenger proclaiming, "Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight." It is a season of reconciliation, 'God and sinners reconciled,' as the ancient carol cries. It is a time when all things seem possible for those who love the Lord and prepare for his coming in glory.
And how do we prepare the way of the Lord? "So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God." 2 Corinthians 5:20 (NRSV)
Prayer: Glory to you, new born king. We pray for peace on earth and mercy. Our hope today is that God and sinners might be reconciled through the coming of Jesus Christ. Use us today and always as ambassadors of your peace and agents of reconciliation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Thursday, April 25, 2024 – In Mexico — Pray for an open door for the Gospel to be preached in the Vineyards of Northern Mexico this spring. Pray that we may be able to go, but if not, then pray for a local believer to deliver the word, so that the Good News of Jesus will be preached to the hundreds of migrant workers from Southern Mexico. Pray the salvation of many.
