Perpetual Springtime

Revelation 21:5,6 – And He who sat upon the throne said "Behold I make all things new." And He said. "Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true"." And He said to me. "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega. The beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give of the fountain of the water of life without payment." (RSV)

Recently I had the privilege and joy of driving through the Rocky Mountains. As always, I marvel at the handiwork of our God. Many of these peaks, even in the middle of summer, are capped with snow. What must it be like up on those heights, forever in the grip of winter blasts and cold winds? It must be a perpetual winter.

I recall the story by Oscar Wilde of the Selfish Giant whose greed held his castle in perpetual winter until the child (a figure of Christ) came and opened his heart to love. Then spring burst forth in all its beauty.

How like our hearts before Christ came into them! What a glory is ours when we let Jesus in! Then our lives are filled with love, and "behold He makes all things new!" Thank God for His renewing love and that, when we accept Him, we become "a new creation" (2 Corinthians 5:17). How glorious the promises of God!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, come into my heart today, make all things new, fill me with unselfish love, and make a perpetual springtime in my life. Amen.
