The Breath Of God

Psalm 145:5 – I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works. (NKJV)

We recently took a trip in a hot air balloon. After a few missed starts due to weather, the perfect day arrived. I was expecting us to rise from the earth in a gush of heat and power which would lift the basket and us from the earth. Much to my surprise, we began to rise in total silence; in fact, it was some time before the pilot had to give the balloon more heat to move. I soon realized that we were not so much in control of our flight as God was — with the wind or lack of wind He provided.

As I reflect back upon this experience, it was truly the breath of God that moved the hot air balloon. As the pilot explained to us, all he could do was to find the wind currents, and to do this all he could do was to take the balloon higher or lower. Any movement either to the left or right comes from air currents — or as I reflect — the breath of God.

Nehemiah 9:6 – You alone are the Lord; You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and everything on it, the seas and all that is in them, and You preserve them all. (NKJV)

It was only as the balloon rose that one could see the splendour and magnitude of the earth. I was totally amazed that one could see the contours of the land from this view of the earth. It was then that I realized that if I could see the contours, how much more God sees — not only the contours, but the tiniest detail. Nothing is out of the view and the realm of God.

Psalm 104:24 – What a wildly wonderful world, God! You made it all, with Wisdom at your side, made earth overflow with your wonderful creations. (MSG)

Prayer: Dear God, help us to be aware of Your breath upon our lives and to be thankful for it. Help us to be aware of the winds of change that are happening in our lives and all over the world. Give us the wisdom to respond and pray appropriately. Amen.
