Listen to this devotional:

Isaiah 28:23 – Listen and hear my voice: pay attention and hear what I say. (NIV)

Colleen was past two years old and just didn't talk. We were beginning to worry, although she could say the usual "Mamma", "Daddy", etc.

We had been to visit grandparents three hours away. Coming home through the dusk, we rounded a curve and could see the lights of both Pouce Coupe and Dawson Creek. I said, "Look at the lights, kids; we'll soon be home." Colleen replied, "And naturally, I have to go to bed." You can imagine the shock when this came forth. She was the third child, and she had allowed the others to speak for her.

A minister once told us to let the children colour or draw pictures if they are restless during a service. They still hear what is being said, and some of it sinks in. I think that in our family life, the same can be said. The children don't appear to hear our instruction, but if we are faithful in our actions, as well as our words, they are aware of it.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we long for our families to know You as we do. Help us to be faithful in our living, and keep our speech appropriate to Your way. Amen.
