In 2000, I wrote a devotional about our daughter's dog, Precious. When we had to have her put to sleep due to old age and a fall, it was a really difficult day for all of us. She had survived with skin cancer for over five years and had a good life, but we still struggled on that day. Shortly after that, I made up a collage of pictures of Precious with each of us and named it "'Precious' Memories".

When our son turned 40 three years ago and our daughter turned 40 this year, I scrapbooked a photo album for each of them, celebrating their first 40 years of life.

Just as all our memories of Precious and our family members are special to each of us, we are precious in God's sight, and every detail of our lives is important to Him. In His book of life, He has recorded the names of all those who have believed in His Son, Jesus.

Revelation 21:27 – Nothing impure will ever enter [the New Jerusalem], nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life. (NIV)

Revelation 20:12 – And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. (NIV)

Is your name written in God's book of life? The invitation is always there. Jesus is waiting for each one of us to accept His invitation to invite Him into our hearts and lives.

If you haven't already invited Jesus into your heart, you can pray this prayer: "Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe that You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust You and follow You as my Lord and Saviour."

If you have sincerely prayed this prayer, then you can be assured that your name is in God's book of life, and that you have been forgiven.

1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (NKJV)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You that when we believe in Jesus Christ and accept Him as our Lord and Saviour, our names are written in Your book of life. Help us to remain faithful to You in all of the circumstances that we face each and every day of our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

That’s a book I’m glad is still around.

    Good Morning Dee:
I am amazed at how you writers get inspiration from everyday events. Like the name Precious. And then relating it to the Bible.
Thank you also for not only saying we are precious in God’s sight but also how to specifically ensure that we are in God’s book. You gave us the words. We only need to say them and believe them.
You won’t know how many people you have touched with this devotional.
Thank you again for doing this. Please continue.
    God bless you, Dee.

    Dear Dee,
Thank your for a gospel message of the way, the truth, and the life — the way of salvation.
    Keep writing for Jesus sake.
