The Bomb

The other day I got bombed. It scared me half to death. Fortunately, I recovered quickly enough that I kept the truck on the road. It did take me a moment or two, however, to figure out exactly what had happened.

As I was driving along on this beautiful day, I was also admiring a flock of Canada geese soaring in their V-shaped pattern high above me. As they passed overhead, the bomb exploded against the driver's side windshield. Have you guessed it yet? That's right: one of those same Canada geese dropped a great big messy, gooey, green-and-white bomb directly onto my vehicle. I was amazed at the size of the bomb as well as the intensity at which it hit the glass. Thank goodness for the strength and safety of vehicle windshields.

Life has a way of dropping bombs on all of us. We never know from one day to the next just what may come. Sometimes, in our minds, it's a big bomb, atomic-sized. Other days, it's just a Roman candle, a firecracker type of explosion. The one thing that we can know, though, is that to live is to experience the bombings of life. The important thing that I have learned to remember, however, is not to panic when they hit. As the famous British slogan states, Keep calm and carry on. These are words that, as Christians, we are definitely able to take to heart and embrace, for Christ is in control. We may not know why the situation has occurred. We may not even know just what to do about the circumstance. But we can know that He does know, and He will guide and direct, comfort and encourage us as we stay calm and carry on in His strength, not our own.

Mark 4:39 – Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. (NKJV)

When the disciples encountered the bomb of a violent storm while they were in a boat with Jesus, they learned something very important: even the winds and the waves obey Him. Nothing was too much for Jesus to handle — not then — and not now!

What bomb of life are you experiencing right now? How are you handling it — with panic, or with peace? Know that amidst it all, Jesus is in control.

Prayer: Lord God, none of us likes to experience the various bombings of this life. Help us to remember that amidst it all, You are with us and in control of our circumstances. Show us the best way to proceed as we stay calm and carry on with trust in You. In Christ's name, we ask. Amen.

    Thanks Lynne. It is inspiring.

Well said Lynn. Thank you! God Bless!

Thanks Lynne for this encouraging devotional message today. Blessings.

    Good morning Lynne,
Thank you so much for “The Bomb”.

Yes, life’s bombs are better than Atomic Bombs!
    Blessings.

    Dear Lynne
Thank you for your prayer and wonderful words of promise. I needed to hear that today.

    Good Morning, Lynne,
Nothing has sustained me more in life than “God is in control.” Thanks for this reminder.

You always hit the nail on the head for me Lynne. I can always rely on your messages to touch my heart and make such good common sense. Blessings to you.

    Lynne
Only you could get a sermon from a Canada Goose encounter of the unpleasant kind and a great sermon it was.
    Thank you.

Loved your devotion this morning Lynne and have forwarded it to a couple of friends who are experiencing bombs in their life right now. I know it will be encouraging for them. Thanks again and may God continue to bless you.

    Dear Lynne!
Bombarded, attacked by aliens all around is a familiar occurrence in this life here. Agreed!
Exiled from home for a time. Safety built in heaven waiting.
All glory to Jesus, He comes by and by.
Keep on illustrating how it is!
    Blessings!

Oh Lynne, you’ve started my day with a laugh. As I began reading about the goose bomb I wondered if we had a new contributor and hurriedly scrolled down to the bottom, only to find that the writer with the wit was you!
It is ironic, although it shouldn’t be, that yesterday I watched an interview with the Gaithier’s and they said they always use humour to find common ground before sharing their gospel message through song.
Thanks for sharing your devotional and bringing a smile to my heart and face this morning.
    Blessings.

Lynne, I very much enjoy your writings! You have an innate ability to take something humorous and encapsulate a Christian lesson. Very often I am chuckling at the humour, and then left saying, “Huh! Who’d have thought!”
To think …. ‘preaching’ can also be so entertaining!!
    Thank you!

    Hi Lynn,
As I sit here tonight I am watching the closing ceremonies of the Invictus Games in Toronto. I thought it was rather coincidental that your devotional, entitled “The Bomb” was posted today while I am watching the athletes who have been hit by real bombs. And these wounded warriors have picked themselves up, with the help of friends and family and faith, and have excelled in sport.
I am in awe of them and how they have gained strength to overcome or manage their disability whether it be amputation, loss of sight, or PTSD.
I like how Prince Harry suggested that they go home and motivate another wounded warrior.
    Thank you for your devotional.

    Hi Lynn,
Good devotional. I am experiencing the bomb of self-inflicted overwork at the moment.
    Thank you for writing.

    Dear Lynne,
Thank you for this devotional. It builds up as it goes.
    Keep calm and carry on.
I’m still curious about how you cleaned the windshield to carry on — though your application to life with God is the most important part of your devotional.

One more inspiring devotional from a friend I have yet to meet. I realize the choice is always left up to me and my task is to listen carefully for His leading and wisdom, then follow it.
For a long time one of my favourite verses God has used to help me be aware of the wires and snares that may well be attached and lead up to some Bomb is “Speak to the Mountain”, and command, it with the faith Jesus has given me, to be removed from my life. And when He has prompted me, through His Spirit, to do this, He has never failed to answer me. Of course, each time He answers, my faith is strengthened by His faithfulness.
