Consistency

Listen while you read: "O That Will Be Glory"1 (Lyrics)

I belong to a writer's group that meets twice a month. When we get together, we have a ten-minute writing exercise, share a homework assignment, and engage in constructive criticism on two or three pages of something that we have been working on.

The key to success in one's writing is being receptive to suggestions from the group and being consistent in taking time every day to sit down at a laptop, a desktop, or a notebook, and just write.

If I don't follow these two suggestions, I find myself falling behind, and other things become priorities in my life. That leads to eventual failure in creating the piece that I have been working on.

How much this is like our Christian walk.

If I am not consistent in spending time with our Father in heaven, I find that I seem to lose my connection with God. I become anxious because I forget the promises that God made to His children. It is in consistent, daily prayer and delving into God's Word that we find peace and wisdom.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 – Pray without ceasing. (NASB)

We need to remember that God doesn't move away from us — we move away from God!

Do you find yourself in stand-still mode? Do you feel isolated from God? Return to Jesus, Who stands at the door of your heart. All you have to do is call out to Him, and He will answer.

Luke 11:9-10 – So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. (NASB)

Prayer: Lord God, help us to return to You. We thank You for the sacrifice of Your Son Jesus, Who made it possible for us to talk directly to You. Help us to be consistent in prayer and in reading Your Word. Amen.
