Getting Lost

John 14:6 – Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (NIV)

Like many men, I do not like to ask for directions when I am driving somewhere. To ask for directions is a sign of weakness, so, no matter how lost I am, I will continue to drive around looking for the right way. We could be on a dirt road and I would be telling my wife, "I am sure this is the main highway. They must just be doing some work on the road right now." So we get "good and lost". Finally, if I do not ask for directions, I begin to think my wife might lynch me. So I break down and ask, so we can finally get to where we were heading in the first place.

As Christians, we do not need to be lost. We have one who is the way and the truth for us — one who is the only way to the Father. Christ died for us so that we may have eternal life. It is only through belief in him that we have salvation. There is no shortcut to take to get to the Father. If we go off on a shortcut that we think will work, we will be wandering for a long time. We have a way to the Father already waiting for us. It is a way that will not lead us around and get us lost, but instead will lead us to a truly great gift.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, if we were left to ourselves we would be wandering and lost, but we give you praise that you have given us the way to you. There is only joy in our hearts for what Jesus has done for us. In Jesus' name. Amen.
