John 8:12 – Again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life." (NASB)
Every year, my husband and I, along with five other couples, drive to Manitoulin Island for a holiday. We have been doing this for the last ten years. There is no power or hot running water where we go. Our source of light is the solar panels that charge the batteries, which in turn produce the power to turn on the lights, the radio and the stereo system. The refrigerator and stove operate by butane gas. Water is pumped up from the lake by a gas generator into barrels for washing dishes, etc.
One evening, while we were playing cards, the lights went out without a warning. There had been no sunlight that day to charge the batteries! We had, as always, an ample supply of candles on hand for just such a situation. The next day, the sun was out in full force again and the batteries were once again re-charged. At the same time, we also watched and carefully conserved this precious gift of solar power for the remainder of the week.
Our Christian walk is the same. We need to be energized by the Holy Spirit. By reading God's word, we will be continually fed by the power of His "Son". If we neglect and misuse this precious gift of the Holy Spirit, we will grieve Him and eventually run on empty. Yet, in our emptiness, we can call for help and He will listen!
Prayer: Gracious God, we thank you for Your gift of the Holy Spirit. May we continually seek Your wisdom and guidance in all we endeavour to do. Amen.
