Boy, That's Good, Ain't It?

Listen to this devotional:

I remember well my childhood when money was hard to come by. Bread bought in a store was a luxury; cookies from the store were a treat; an ice cream cone was almost unheard of; a Dixie cup eaten with a little wooden spoon — well, I thought I was in heaven.

One summer afternoon, my mom, her mom, my sister, and I were in town. It was a very hot day. We had been working hard — likely picking peas or beans and freezing them, weeding in the garden, or maybe butchering chickens in the morning. Whatever it was, after lunch, we cleaned up and went to town for the weekly grocery shopping spree.

While we were there, my mom suggested we go into a little café and have a glass of pop. Well, just the mention of it was a delight to a little girl's heart. In we went. We all ordered orange pop. As we sat and sipped it slowly to prolong the special occasion, my grandma said, "Boy, that's good, ain't it?" We all agreed and kept sipping slowly. It was so refreshing on such a hot day.

I have thought about that event recently. As I read God's Word, I can say, "Boy, that's good, ain't it?"

John 3:16 – This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. (MSG)

Boy, that's good, ain't it?

Galatians 5:1 – Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you. (MSG)

Boy, that's good, ain't it?

Psalm 34:17-18 – Is anyone crying for help? God is listening, ready to rescue you. If your heart is broken, you'll find God right there; if you're kicked in the gut, he'll help you catch your breath. (MSG)

Boy, that's good, ain't it?

There are so many promises in God's Word for us. Let's read it and claim these truths as ours.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, so many times we read Your Word, skipping over it quickly. Speak to us as we read Your Word today. Help us to find a "Boy, that's good, ain't it?" truth. Amen.
