Clean Windows

Listen to this devotional:

Hebrews 10:17 – He concludes, I'll forever wipe the slate clean of their sins. (MSG)

Each morning as I watched from the balcony, a man would come out and clean his window with a cloth and Windex. Why was this so interesting? We had not had any rain, it had been sunny each day, and after all, his window looked clean to me.

Curiosity got the better of me, so as my husband was going to the car one morning, I asked him to ask the gentleman about his actions. He explained that the sea air contains salt that makes a film on the window. Each day he goes down and wipes it from his windows. Looking at the windows, one could not see the film of salt.

On the way home from our trip, we experienced some rain, and as we switched on the car's windshield wipers, they smeared the window. The more the wipers wiped, the more the window smeared. Even using the windshield washer fluid did not seem to make a difference. Finally, enough washer fluid had been dispensed, and the window cleared. Then, it dawned on me that the salt film that the man had been talking about was what was smearing on the window. Even though we had not seen it, the effect resided on the window.

Our lives can also follow down this type of path. We sin, and at first, we don't see a negative result. Then we sin again, or a bit more, and eventually, our sin is revealed and must be wiped clean.

On a side note, it was not even a week later when I found myself back in the snow and ice, standing in the driveway, scraping snow and ice from my windshield, so that I could drive my car.

Hebrews 10:23 – Let's keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. (MSG)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, we praise and thank You for all the experiences that You send our way. We are so grateful for the promises in Your Word that set us on the right path of life again. Help us each day to show the lost of the world Your way to eternity. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
