Listen to this devotional:

John 10:10b – I came so that my sheep will have life and so that they will have everything they need. (GWT)

Recently, I was sitting on my patio on a hot day. My patio is made of cement blocks. Each block measures four inches by eight inches. There are grooves between each block. For a bug, no matter its size, it is quite a feat to accomplish walking across the patio, dipping in and out of the "valleys".

I noticed a beetle scurrying across the hot cement. It dipped in and out of the valleys. It never gave up. At times, it would stumble, but quickly got its bearings, and away it would go again. I watched it for quite a while, and it never, ever gave up. It was focused on reaching its destination.

How do we do on our journey? Are we focused on our destination? How do we do when we have valleys to go into and valleys to climb out of? Will we keep going after we stumble?

I love the old hymn, "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus", by Helen H. Lemmel:

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There's light for a look at the Saviour,
And life more abundant and free!

    Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

Philippians 4:19 – My God will richly fill your every need in a glorious way through Christ Jesus. (GWT)

Even though we have valleys to go through and hot ground to walk across, let's stay focused on the fact that we will have everything we need, because Jesus said so.

Prayer: God, we do have valleys in our lives. We have hot spots to go through. We don't like them, yet we know they will happen. Help us to focus on You and to trust You to supply our every need. Amen.
