Walk In The Park

Listen to this devotional:

Genesis 13:17 – Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you. (NKJV)

We live within walking distance of an extensive urban park. As we enter this park, we are surrounded by big deciduous trees and various paths. A few minutes' walk leads to a broad, open area just like a meadow. On the other side of the meadow, there is a section with streams and deciduous trees, and then a large forest of pine trees. In a walk of about fifteen to twenty minutes, all of these changes can be experienced.

As the seasons change, our walk through this area also changes: from the leaves changing colour in the fall, to the snow-packed paths and quietness of winter, to the new life that spring sends forth.

Proverbs 11:14 – Without good direction, people lose their way; the more wise the counsel you follow, the better your chances. (MSG)

We recently had some people visiting, and they wanted to take a walk, so we took them into the park. Today in my reading, I came across the following Scripture, and realized just how important our role is for others who are part of our lives.

Isaiah 42:16 – But I'll take the hand of those who don't know the way, who can't see where they're going. I'll be a personal guide to them, directing them through unknown country. I'll be right there to show them what roads to take, make sure they don't fall into the ditch. These are the things I'll be doing for them — sticking with them, not leaving them for a minute. (MSG)

Reflecting on this, I realized that if we had not gone with our visitors to direct them, they may not have found their way, or they might have taken a wrong turn and missed some of this area, or they could have become lost.

God promises to stay close, to guide His people. As Christians, we are called to help guide others by walking with them.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, help us to come alongside the lost and show them the way to You. Guide our path in the ways that You want us to be a guide to others. Help us to turn from our paths and ways to Your path and way. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
