John 18:4a – Then Jesus, knowing all that was about to befall Him, went out to them. (AMP)
The little turtle scuffled his head back into his shell. He didn't know whether the boy had a mean streak or if he was just curious. To be on the safe side, he hid.
That's exactly what I wanted to do when the book galleys for Heartfelt: 366 Devotions for Common Sense Living and God, Gluttony and You arrived. I didn't want to do the corrections.
Most of us prefer to avoid life's hard bits. A bill collector calls. We hang up instead of discussing payment options. A yearly check-up is a great idea, for others. Surely the symptoms will go away. The boss has a deadline? Maybe no one will notice we didn't do our share.
No decision is a decision. Avoidance prolongs a problem. Bills, check-ups, deadlines, and book galleys continue to happen. How will we deal with them?
Jesus could have hidden Himself away, but He understood that crucifixion was part of God's plan. He faced His troubles headfirst, asked appropriate questions, spoke the truth, and let innocent bystanders off the hook.
It's not too late to make a start. We may have procrastinated for a time, but it's never too late to meet troubles face-to-face. Book galleys, here I come!
Prayer: Lord, give us grace to meet life the way You did, full on, with dignity and courage. Amen.
